What About Those Syrian Chemical Weapons?

We’ve heard the reports of the Assad regime using chemical weapons against a large number of civilians in Syria, and my thoughts turned back a couple of years to events Diana & I attended, and their connection to Syrian WMDs (chemical weapons).

The following is an excerpt from an earlier report on our trip to Washington DC and the Glenn Beck rally there. You can read the entire report at A trip to the mall | A Yearning for Publius

… The new friend I talked to claimed to be a retired Army Intelligence officer who was part of the team that searched for WMDs in IRAQ. He related some interesting stories of this experience as follows: his team was looking for evidence of chemical weapons. He pointed out that chemical weapons, once they are mixed for use have a very short shelf life, on the order of 5 hours. I asked him if they had found the components necessary to mix the final product, either separately or together, and he said they did, in many locations, although since they were not mixed could not be counted as WMDs; In interrogating senior Iraqi officers they consistently told the interrogators there were no WMDs. However, when asked what their answer would have been six months earlier, they consistently answered that they (WMDs) were there; I asked about reports that WMDs were convoyed out to Syria prior to the invasion. He told me that they followed those leads, but there was no conclusive evidence that they either had or had not convoyed WMDs out of the country. On a side note here, Diana and I attended a lecture in San Diego, where General Sada, a top Iraqi Air Force General and close confidant of Salaam Hussein, testified that he personally had witnessed, and was part of the removal of the WMDs; The retired officer said that they did find a warehouse filled with castor beans, the main component of ricin, a very potent chemical/biological warfare agent. Was the man who he claimed to be? I don’t know, but he was certainly an interesting prelude to the coming day.

Going back to the early 2000s we recall that most of the world’s intelligence agencies concluded that Saddam Hussein’s Iraq had WMDs and was a gathering threat in the region. Further, these same agencies believed that Hussein was continuing his nuclear weapons program in a clandestine fashion, and would reactivate it as soon as he was successful in getting the sanctions removed from his country. Remember that the Israelis had previously destroyed an Iraqi Nuclear site.  Remember also that this was just a few short years after September 11, 2001 and there was much concern and fear that more attacks were to come.

Well, Iraq was invaded and Hussein was toppled from power. No WMDs were found, and the American political left pounced on this with vicious attacks on President Bush and Vice President Cheney. “Bush lied – babies died.”

A new American leader, charismatic and flamboyant but otherwise empty,  arises from this “don’t let a serious crisis go to waste”  propagandist left.

And where do we now find ourselves on the world stage?

We have little or no respect or influence in the entire swath of Muslim nations from Pakistan to the Northwestern corner of Africa.

Egypt came (is?) very close to a permanent radical dictatorship from the Muslim Brotherhood, an organization that is a direct descendant of Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Party.  And the verdict is still out on that looming civil war.

Israel is isolated and surrounded, as described in the Biblical scenarios describing the “end times.” The Bible says that all nations will be gathered against Jerusalem (Zech. 12:3; 14:2-3)

Zechariah 12 A prophecy: The word of the Lord concerning Israel.

The Lord, who stretches out the heavens, who lays the foundation of the earth, and who forms the human spirit within a person, declares: 2 “I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling. Judah will be besieged as well as Jerusalem. 3 On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves. 4 On that day I will strike every horse with panic and its rider with madness,” declares the Lord. “I will keep a watchful eye over Judah, but I will blind all the horses of the nations. 5 Then the clans of Judah will say in their hearts, ‘The people of Jerusalem are strong, because the Lord Almighty is their God.’

6 “On that day I will make the clans of Judah like a firepot in a woodpile, like a flaming torch among sheaves. They will consume all the surrounding peoples right and left, but Jerusalem will remain intact in her place.

7 “The Lord will save the dwellings of Judah first, so that the honor of the house of David and of Jerusalem’s inhabitants may not be greater than that of Judah. 8 On that day the Lord will shield those who live in Jerusalem, so that the feeblest among them will be like David, and the house of David will be like God, like the angel of the Lord going before them. 9 On that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that attack Jerusalem.

This isolation would seem to include the United States, who in the person of Barack Obama and speaking as the official voice of the country, advocates the retreat of Israel to the pre-1967  borders, otherwise know as the Auschwitz borders.

Recently we witnessed the closing of 20+ US embassies and consulates throughout the Muslim world and extending into sub-Saharan Africa.   The map we all saw on TV depicting these closures was eerily similar to a map Glenn Beck showed some 4 years ago when warning of the coming Islamic Caliphate. Beck was mocked back then, but was very much on the mark. Beck claimed no prophetic powers or heavenly message, only the ability to read the trends of history and current events … and reading and believing the very words of those in the process of establishing that Caliphate.

Then we come back to the bloody Syrian civil war and the use of chemical weapons … WMDs.

In all likelihood, much of the Syrian stockpile of WMDs have their origin in Iraq.

But,as we all know, “Bush lied – babies died.”

And the Persian nuclear bomb? Israel most likely will launch a preemptive strike at some point against the Iranian nuclear weapons sites, but my gosh … its getting to be so late.   And, the Iranians have repeatedly threatened to use those weapons to exterminate an entire nation; men, women and children reminiscent of Hitler and the gas chambers. What will America do? Most likely nothing, except to allow it all to unfold.

Don’t worry about Israel. Worry about your own nation .. your children and grandchildren … and yourself.

Read again from Zechariah 12:

On that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that attack Jerusalem.
