Several weeks ago I wrote an essay on the topic of the worldwide attack on Christianity based on an article in Commentary magazine and the web sites of Open Doors and The Voice of the Martyrs. Now this weeks issue of Newsweek has a cover story titled The Global War on Christians in the Muslim World.
The author of the Newsweek article, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, herself a victim of Islamic persecution, makes the point that many in the West have been cowed and bullied into silence against this ugly wave of persecution and violence with the accusations of Islamophobia. She rightly points out that what is happening on a worldwide scale is not Islamophobia, but Christophobia; a Christophobia that goes far beyond name calling resulting in torture and murder on a grand scale.
Having a rational fear of Islam is not Islamophobia, it is a rational fear of Islam based on the long and ugly record of Islam. Perhaps if there had been more Nazi-phobia in the 1930s and 40s, and more Communist-phobia beginning in the 1930s and through the 1980s there would have ben many millions fewer die in the gas chambers and gulags.
