My Pick for President in 2012

  • He will be a historian. She will have a solid understanding of history, both world history, and especially American history.
  • She will have a solid and deep understanding of the United States Constitution. He will have studied, in depth, the Federalist Papers, and also the Anti-Federalist writers.
  • She understands the real world reasons why the U.S. Government is structured as it is by the Constitution. He understands, from history, that power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely, to the point of slavery and death to those who would protest.
  • She considers the Constitution to be a binding legal document; between the Federal Government, the States, and the citizens. Not a “living” document, but one that is only changed through the Constitutional method of amendment by the people.
  • He understands that the American free market economic system has brought more freedom, both political and economic, to the world than any other system ever tried (or retried, and retried …).
  • She will be well experienced in ways that count: significant executive and personal business experience. A Governor, with some real world business background, would qualify.
  • He will be a person of enormous personal integrity.
  • She will be a Christian, and one who understands clearly the admonition to “Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s”.
  • He will be one who has enormous respect for the military, and not denigrate it in any way, either on the campaign trail, or as President.
  • She will be one who respects and values long standing alliances, and will show no disrespect to allies.
  • He will, at all times, project an image of American strength, and thus not invite aggression or instability.
  • She will understand that “American exceptionalism” is a real quality of this nation, as demonstrated time and time again in our actions around the world.
  • He will understand and appreciate that the Judeo/Christian world view is the basis of the American civilization.
  • She will develop policies which will minimize national debt.
  • He will surround himself with broadly experienced cabinet members and staff. The team will have broad and deep government and business experience. The team assembled by President George W. Bush; Richard Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Colin Powell and  others, is a good model.

  • She will not be a “progressive”.
  • He will not be a “socialist” in any form, nor tend towards any socialist policies.
  • She will not be a Senator, one whose professional career has been spent primarily in judgment of others.
  • Career politicians may apply here, but must go to the back of the line.
  • She will not be an idealist, but rather one with high ideals, tempered with real world and Constitutional pragmatism.
  • He will not have been president of any major university.
  • She will not present this nation to others nations as something to apologize for.
  • He will avoid any speech or action that portrays the United States as weak.
  • She will not be anti-business, but rather will work with businesses of all sizes and types to maximize our competitive posture in the world.
  • He will not demonize those who disagree.
  • She will not necessarily be an elequant speaker, but rather one who speaks the truth with clarity.

It seems to me that one of the main functions of Senators, especially long seated ones, is to sit in judgement on others. Thus, for example, Joe Biden would probably make an abismal president.

I thought it timely to revisit this … how does your candidate stack up?
