Iraq panel drops democracy goal, emphasizes damage control

“Iraqi panel drops democracy, emphasizes damage control”

I read this headline on the MSNBC web site with sadness, anger and disgust!!!

Think about the 10’s of thousands of Iraqi’s that rose up against Saddam following gulf war I, with the expectation that the US would support them.  They were abandoned and suffered mass murder.

Think about the purple fingers of those Iraqi’s that were grateful to the U.S. and trusted us enough to risk death for the opportunity of liberty. They voted for the opportunity of liberty for the first time in Arab history; not once, not twice, but three times.

Think about those multitudes of Afghans  that risked death to vote for the opportunity of liberty.

Think about the liberty of 100’s of millions of Soviet Union slaves that are to this day, thankful for the courage of Ronald Reagan and the United States of America.

Think about the 100’s of million Europeans the were given liberty and constitutional republics thanks to the courage and clear thinking of FDR and Harry Truman following WW II.

Think about the 100’s of million Japanese and South Koreans who were given liberty and constitutional republics thanks to the courage and clear thinking of Harry Truman.

Think of the courage of Great Britain and Winston Churchill,  and their brave stand against Nazi aggression and slavery.

And now we “drop democracy” and exchange it for “damage control”?

My hope and prayer is that G.W. Bush, my (and your) President will answer the clarion call of American history and remind the whole world that the United States of America is a shining light on a hill, that we are indeed the last best hope of the world.

If America fails, it that light goes out,  there will not be another.
